Why Grass-fed Cattle?
Grass-fed cattle can offer several health benefits due to the nutritional differences in their meat compared to conventionally raised, grain-fed counterparts. We raise our cattle with compassion, emphasizing humane treatment and a commitment to sustainability.
Health Benefits
- Lower in Total Fat: Grass-fed beef is often leaner and contains lower total fat content compared to grain-fed beef.
- Higher in Omega-3 Fatty Acids: Grass-fed beef typically has higher levels of omega-3 fatty acids, which are beneficial for heart health and have anti-inflammatory properties.
- Higher in Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA): Grass-fed beef is a good source of CLA, a type of fatty acid that has been associated with various health benefits, including potential anti-cancer properties.
- Rich in Antioxidants: The meat from grass-fed cattle may have higher levels of antioxidants, such as vitamin E and beta-carotene.
- Increased Vitamin and Mineral Content: Grass-fed beef can contain higher levels of certain vitamins and minerals, including B-vitamins (such as B12 and niacin), zinc, and iron.
- Lower Risk of E. coli Contamination: Grass-fed cattle are less prone to carrying dangerous strains of E. coli bacteria compared to grain-fed cattle, reducing the risk of contamination.
- No Antibiotic and Hormone Residues: Grass-fed cattle are typically raised without the use of antibiotics and growth hormones commonly used in conventional farming, reducing the potential for residues in the meat.
- Improved Omega-6 to Omega-3 Ratio: While both omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids are essential for health, the modern Western diet often contains an imbalance in the ratio. Grass-fed beef tends to have a more favorable ratio, contributing to a healthier balance.
